Program Success
In the 25 years since Read-Aloud Volunteer Program was founded, Read-Aloud has distributed 96,500+ books and matched thousands of children with adult volunteers for one-on-one reading.
From our most recent full year of data (2018-19), of the students whose teachers responded:
32% went from reading below grade level to reading at grade level
5% went from below grade level to above grade level reading
7% went from reading at grade level to above grade level
87% of students increased their reading comprehension and showed improved social skills (as evaluated by volunteer)
Families reported that they increased family reading time together (82%), their child talked about the books they took home (91%) and that their child was excited about having new books (98%)
